Which Calypso Control Do I Have?


Calypso Waterjet Control Versions

Calypso Waterjet Systems manufactured control systems for the waterjet systems it built from 1994, until it ceased operation February 2009.  Over those years, the company maintained technological leadership through the release of successive generations of motion control platforms.  The following is a guide to the control versions and how to identify them.


MkI Stepper Motor Version
- 1994 thru end of 1998

MEI controller
Open Loop Stepper Driver by Pacific Scientific
4 axis control
MEI controller sits in control computer ISA or PCI slot, with ribbon cable to main control board

MkI Servo Motor Version - January 1998 thru mid 2002
MEI controller
Closed Loop Servo Driver by AMC
4 axis control
MEI controller sits in control computer ISA or PCI slot , with ribbon cable to main control board


MkII - July 2002 thru mid 2004

Galil Controller

Galil plugs into main control board, as a daughter board, and sits on the main board top edge.

Uses AMC drives and MCG motors

Two cables from the console to each motor (each motor as two external connectors)


MkIID (also known as MkIII) - Mid 2004 thru Q4 2005

Galil controller

Galil plugs into main control board, as a daughter board, and sits on the main board top edge

Danaher servo drives (S200) and motors (AKM series)

Single cable from the console to each motor (motor has single external connector)


MKIV - Q4 2005 and later

PMDi controller

Controller sits in computer in PCI slot of the console computer, with two ribbon cables that plug into the main control board

Danaher servo drives (S200) and motors (AKM series).
